The Converse Basketball Yearbook has returned! I provided illustrations of J.J. Barea, Luke Harangody, Udonis Haslem, Kirk Hinrich, and Kyle Korver.
I tried to make each illustration unique to the player. In the case of Udonis Haslem — he’s a tough guy/rebounder type. So I used a pencil (it leaves behind a certain gritty texture) and depicted him from a low angle to suggest power.
I was particularly happy with the way my illustration of J.J. Barea, a hard-to-stop point guard for the NBA champion Dallas Mavericks, turned out. As a point guard, his responsibilities include running plays on the court, a basketball equivalent of an NFL quarterback. The chalkboard seemed like a good visual motif for such a player.
